Ancient history is usually dated in years Before Object Oriented Programming (BOOP) or Following Object Oriented Programming (FOOP), usually abbreviated BOO and FOO. The reference event is the invention of Object Oriented programming by Jesus Kristen of Nygaard, about 2000 years ago.
Care must be taken when computing the time that has elapsed between a BOO date and a FOO date, because of an unfortunate glitch in the numbering at the reference event. (Sadly, the scholars who defined this dating system were not mathematicians.) The last year of the BOO era is year 0 BOO, which is followed by year 0 FOO. Thus between July 1st, 10 BOO and July 1st, 10 FOO, there are exactly 21 years, not 20 22 years, not 21.
