User:Isomorphic/newuser

This is my new user welcome boilerplate. I always do copy-and-paste greetings, and usually personalize them a bit for each person I greet. This page exists so I won't have to retype the stuff that's almost always appropriate.

I dislike the recent habit of using page transclusion to do greetings. It's impersonal, and might as well be done by a 'bot if that's all the effort we're willing to put in. If you insist on greeting that way, at least have the sense to use "subst" instead of just brackets. Otherwise the person you've greeted is likely to notice that it's a canned greeting, and that's just tacky.

Hi there. [[Wikipedia:Welcome, newcomers|Welcome]] to Wikipedia! I hope you like it here and stick around. If you want, you can drop us a note at [[Wikipedia:New user log]] to introduce yourself.

Before you start doing a lot of editing, you might want to take the [[Wikipedia:Tutorial|]]. It gives a lot of basic info you'll want to get you oriented on Wikipedia.

You can sign your name on talk pages by using three tildes (<nowiki>" ~~~ ") for your username and four (" ~~~~ ") for your username and a timestamp.</nowiki>

If you have any other questions about the project then check out [[Wikipedia:Help]] or add a question to the [[Wikipedia:Help desk|]]. You can also drop me a question on my [[User Talk:Isomorphic|talk page]].

Happy editing, ~~~~

A second boilerplate, formatted differently.
