What follows is a method I use to post Electronic Music events in Texas. This is my own personal project but I wanted to make it available on this wiki for other people who want to collaborate with me. I'm not making any money doing this and I've gotten a lot of thanks from music fans in the community for my work. I also love wikis.

MISSION STATEMENT: As of Jan 2004, electronic music felt really in trouble. People seem to have lost interest either in Raves, seeing a simple DJ, or hearing something new and unique. The notoriously hard-nosed Texas law enforcement continues to stand in the way of events like this, thinking they're purely for the drug culture. Although it has been accepted overseas, we just want to help make it easier for people to find great local shows as well as international talent. Electronic music continues to be a poor seller, ignored by both the mainstream save for the occasional top 40 hit.

What to post:

From these sites, you'll get tons of information but there are only four essential elements.

• Name of Event - Fantastico or DJ ___ @ Location
• Genre(s) or lack of genres - Downtempo House, Hardcore Drum and Bass, Goa Trance
• Day & Date - Saturday, January 3rd at 10 P.M.
• Cost / Where to get tickets - $12 + service charge @ the box office
• Who's playing / why you should come (awards won, albums sold, etc.) DJ Fastguy won best mixing at SXSW -

Without those elements, skip the party - but that's all you need.

Additional nice stuff:

• Related Links - other promotion companies, etc.
• Restrictions - on age or dress
• Parking - suggestions for where to park cheaply, how not to get towed
• Visuals - lasers, puppeshow, very wild DJ, whatever

About the artist:

• Photo of the artist(s) that communicates something of their style
• Artist's Website
• Some sample of their work (similar to what they'll be playing)

If you're listing an unrecognizable name (doesn't often play in the area) explain:

• • Where he IS known
  • What he plays
  • If he has a CD out
  • Awards, kudos, reviews
  • Labelnew guy or famous-in-his area)

Posting better events the quick and easy way

Here's the system for posting really well online and quite fast.

1. Install Mozilla (visit http://www.mozilla.org). Despite being a great alternative to Internet Explorer, you're going to use the editor.
2. Go in and change out the template to match the party that's being thrown. Use Ctrl+L to add links (the program's really easy, just play with it and call with questions).
3. Select "view source" and copy the information.
4. Paste all that text to the given Website (houstonraves, txraves, etc) and hit "post" or "submit" whatever.

If possible, include a direct link to a Mapquest (http://www.mapquest.com) or Yahoo! Maps (http://maps.yahoo.com) location.

Using HTML editor NoteTab lite (http://www.notetab.com/ntl.php) - the WYSIWYG editors aren't really doing the trick.
