Upper Iowa River

The Upper Iowa River is a tributary of the Mississippi River in the upper Midwest of the United States.
Its headwaters are in southeastern Minnesota, in Mower County near the border with Iowa, through which it flows for most of its length.
It flows in a meandering direction, roughly eastward along the northern border of Iowa through the hill county, passing through Chester, Lime Springs, Florenceville, Kendallville, and Decorah before emptying into the Mississippi in the extreme northeastern corner of Iowa in Allamakee County.
It is an excellent river for canoeing taking paddlers through the scenic bluff country. Many put in at Kendallville or down river from there, but many intrepid paddlers sometimes prefer to start at Lime Springs by the Lidtke Mill or at Florenceville.
