Unterseeboot 4
|
The submarine, christened "UB-4", was commanded by Leutnant zur See Karl Gross. It was a small UB-1 type U-boat. In August 1915, near Great Yarmouth, UB-4 approached a fishing fleet presumably to attack it. One of the unpowered sailing ships was, in fact, a Q-ship. The Inverlyon was a converted fishing vessel equipped with a small 47mm cannon. The British crew sank the UB-4 with a loss of all hands.
