University of Toronto Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering

The University of Toronto's Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering is that school's engineering faculty. It was established in 1873 as the School of Practical Science. It became known as the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering in 1906 and is currently Canada's largest Engineering teaching and research institution.

The Faculty has close to 4,300 undergraduate students and approximately 1,400 graduate students. There are 219 faculty members and approximately 28,000 alumni.

The faculty is based in a number of buildings at the southern edge of the St. George Campus in downtown Toronto. As of 2005, the Dean of the Faculty is Dr. Anastasios (Tas) N. Venetsanopoulos[1] (http://www.dsp.toronto.edu/~anv/).

Among the programs offered at the faculty is the multidisciplinary Engineering Science program, which is one of the most difficult academic programs in which to be admitted in Canada.
