Under a Killing Moon was the third
Tex Murphy adventure game produced by
Access Software, the development house behind the
Links golf game series. It was billed as an interactive-movie (like
Mad Dog McRee series), and set in a futuristic post-nuclear world. As private investigator Tex Murphy you explore a post-apocalyptic San Francisco filled with mutants to get to the bottom of the case. A number of famous and well-known actors starred, including
Margot Kidder,
Brian Keith, and
Russell Means, as well as narration from
James Earl Jones.
Under a Killing Moon was a very big hit, and received many positive reviews as well as many adventure game of the year awards from various computer game magazines around the world. The gameplay included room and area exploration, dialogue, movies, and various puzzles. Released on 4 CDs (2.3 gigabytes of data), the game was playable on a 386 DX-25Mhz with 4Mb RAM and a SVGA card.
