USS Saratoga
|
Six United States Navy ships have borne the name Saratoga, after the important Battle of Saratoga in the American Revolutionary War.
- The second Saratoga was a corvette built on Lake Champlain for service in the War of 1812.
- The third Saratoga was a sloop-of-war commissioned 1843 and served until 1888.
- The fifth Saratoga (CV-3) was the third aircraft carrier of the Navy, commissioned in 1927 and active in World War II.
- The sixth Saratoga (CV-60) was also an aircraft carrier, commissioned 1952, decommissioned 1994 and proposed to become a museum ship (see www.saratogamuseum.org).
In the Star Trek fictional universe, USS Saratoga (NCC-31911) was a type three Miranda class starship in Starfleet.
In the canceled Science Fiction series Space: Above and Beyond there is a SCVN (Space Carrier Vehicle Nuclear) named the USS Saratoga which serves as the home base for the 58th Marine Fighter Squadron (the main fighter group of the show) known as the Wildcards.
