Only one commissioned ship of the United States Navy has borne the name Newark, after the town of Newark, New Jersey.

- In 1942, CL-100 was to be a light cruiser named Newark, but it was converted to a light aircraft carrier and eventually launched as the San Jacinto (CVL-30).
- Another light cruiser Newark (CL-108) was cancelled in August 1945 before completion, although the hull was later launched and used for tests.
