USS Minneapolis-St. Paul
One US Navy ship has been named for Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Minnesota: a Los Angeles class submarine, hull number SSN-708.
Previously, Minneapolis and St. Paul have been honored with separate ships; both twice:
- USS Minneapolis
- USS Minneapolis (C-13), later CA-17, a Columbia-class cruiser, served from 1894 to 1921. She was scrapped under the terms of the Washington Naval Treaty.
- USS Minneapolis (CA-36), a New Orleans-class heavy cruiser, served from 1934 to 1946. She was sold for scrapping in 1947, during the immediate postwar drawdown in forces.
- USS Saint Paul
- USS Saint Paul, no designation, an auxiliary cruiser converted from a passenger liner, was commissioned in 1898 for the Spanish-American War, returned to civilian service at the war's end, and was briefly recommissioned for transport duty from 27 October 1917 to 24 March 1919.
- USS Saint Paul (CA-73), ex-Rochester, a Baltimore-class heavy cruiser, served from 1945 to 1971, and was sold for scrapping in 1980.
Other US Navy or Military Sealift Command ships named in honor of Minnesota or Minnesota cities (at least in part):
- USS Minnesota - steam frigate (Minnesota River) and battleship (State of Minnesota)
- USS Duluth - light cruiser and amphibious landing ship (city of Duluth, Minnesota)
- USNS Gopher State - Crane ship/prepositioning auxiliary (a nickname of the State of Minnesota)
