USS Louisiana (BB-71) was canceled prior to her keel being laid.
Louisiana was scheduled to be a Montana-class battleship in the United States Navy. She would have been the fourth ship to be named in honor of the 18th state.
She was authorized July 19, 1940, and assigned to the Norfolk Navy Yard, Portsmouth, Virginia; but, before her keel was laid, construction was canceled July 21, 1943. She was the last American battleship authorized.
