U.S. Highway 138
|
U.S. Highway 138, a short east-west highway between US 30 in western Nebraska and Sterling, Colorado, where it met the long-defunct U.S. Highway 38 (now U.S. Highway 6) along the South Platte River in Nebraska and Colorado, and that "child" route related to old US 38 has long outlived its "parent". Until U.S. Highway 66 and U.S. Highway 99 were decommissioned, US 138 was the only US highway to not have a "parent" route.
A short and nearly intrastate route that a nearby Interstate (the western Interstate 76) has largely supplanted, US 138 is often suggested as a candidate for decommissioning.
