Tsuen Wan (MTR)

- This article is about Tsuen Wan Station of the MTR, for the line of the same name, see Tsuen Wan Line.
Tsuen Wan (荃灣, Jyutping: cyun4 waan1, Pinyin: Quánwān) is the northern terminus of the MTR Template:Tsuen Wan Line in Hong Kong. It is located at the north-central part of Tsuen Wan new town, and its next station is Tai Wo Hau.
The station is opened with the line's opening on May 10, 1982. It is, strangely, a through station with two off-side platforms. Actually, it is originally designed as an intermediate station, with a terminus called Tsuen Wan West further north-west near present-day Tsuen King Garden apartments (do not mix it up with the current station on KCR West Rail). However, the area around that terminus had an unsatisfactory development record so it was decided to end the line here.
During the construction, the Route Twisk was diverted and the famous Sam Tung Uk walled village also had to be relocated, though the village was later preserved as a museum.
New roads and shopping centres are set up around the station, and a housing estate was also built directly above the station. A bus interchange is also set up under one of the shopping centres.
After over 20 years of development, the area near the station has already taken over the role of town centre (originally a bit to the south-east), and there are always crowds of people there.
There was previously the Chinese-styled design inside the station, it was completely removed after refurbishment.
