According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 599 people, 197 households, and 176 families residing in the village. The population density is 537.8/km² (1,399.7/mi²). There are 200 housing units at an average density of 179.6/km² (467.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 94.66% White, 0.67% African American, 0.00% Native American, 1.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.17% from other races, and 2.50% from two or more races. 4.17% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 197 households out of which 40.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 85.3% are married couples living together, 3.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 10.2% are non-families. 6.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.04 and the average family size is 3.18.
In the village the population is spread out with 30.9% under the age of 18, 4.0% from 18 to 24, 23.9% from 25 to 44, 30.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 101.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.1 males.
The median income for a household in the village is $99,297, and the median income for a family is $102,603. Males have a median income of $91,504 versus $37,344 for females. The per capita income for the village is $58,013. 3.4% of the population and 3.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.2% of those under the age of 18 and 3.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
History
Trout valley was once part of Cary, Illinois until it became its own village. The children go to Cary schools since the village itself does not have any schools, fire department, police department, etc. The land was once owned by the Hertz and still has a few structures left over from that period of time
