Tromp class destroyer

Officially classified as frigates, the two Tromp class destroyers entered service in 1975 and 1976 and served until 1999 and 2001.
Very compact ships, 138 meters in length, 14.8 meters wide and displacing 4300 tonnes. Complement only 270 (306 including staff). Fully gas turbine powered, speed 30+ knots. Served as fleet flagships and area air defence vessels.
Powerful armament consisting of two 120mm (4.7 inch) Bofors rapid firing guns (survived from an older Type 47A anti-submarine destroyer and modernised), eight Harpoon long-range anti-ship missiles, NATO Sea Sparrow short-range anti-air missiles (16 carried), Standard medium-range anti-air missiles (40 carried), two triple anti-submarine torpedo banks and a Lynx helicopter (two could been carried). Later a Goalkeeper short-range defence-system was fitted.
Their 3-D radar under a large polyester radome, gave the ships the nickname "Kojak" in the Netherlands navy.
Ships have been replaced now by De Zeven Provinciën class frigates. A total of four will be built.
