Tree pinning
|
The object of tree pinning, as in tree-spiking, according to the Field Guide to Monkeywrenching is to "wreak havoc with the butchering blade of the sawmill", thus increasing the cost of milling trees into lumber through damage to equipment and injury to mill workers.
Because many lumber mills use various means to detect metal in the wood they process, those who practice tree pinning sometimes use non-metallic pins or infiltrate the lumber mill to pin trees that have already been scanned.
Pinning trees is referred to as monkeywrenching by those who practice it or support those who do and eco-terrorism or ecotage by those who do not.
