Tony Blackburn

Tony Blackburn is a British disc jockey. In 2002 he was the winner of the ITV reality TV programme I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!
He was born Kenneth Roswell Blackburn and educated at Millfield School. He began his career as a singer, then worked as a DJ for the offshore pirate radio stations Radio Caroline and Radio London, before joining the BBC in the mid-1960s.
He was the first DJ to be heard when BBC Radio 1, when it was launched in 1967, presented the breakfast show until 1973. His cheery style and corny jokes ensured his household and made him a popularity name.
In 1973, Tony took over the weekday mid-morning slot, where he introduced 'The Golden Hour'. Simon Bates later carried this feature.
In November 1977, Tony took over the weekday afternoon show & in addition to this, took over the Sunday Chart rundown in 1979.
In early 1980, he took over Junior Choice on Saturday & Sunday morning from 8-10am as well as the sunday chart, which he presented untill 1982.
From 1982, Tony remained on the Saturday & Sunday morning slot, but it was classed as a Weeekednd Breakfast show.
Tony left Radio 1 in 1984 & went to present a soul show on BBC Radio London.
In 1988 Tony joined Capital Gold, where he presented the Drivetime show for many years
Tony left Capital Gold in 2002 & presented many shows on Jazz FM in both London & the North of England.
In 2003, Tony returned to BBC London, presenting a Monday evening soul show.
Tony now hosts the breakfast show on Classic Gold AM, with co-host Laura Pitson. And also on BBC London 94.9 at Saturday lunchtimes
He has also performed in an audio play based on the Doctor Who television series by Big Finish Productions - The Rapture in which he plays the part of a DJ in an Ibiza nightclub where angels are brainwashing the clubbers.
