Tommy Turrentine

Thomas Walter Turrentine, Jr. (1928 – 1997) was a swing and hard bop trumpeter of the 1940s to 1960s. He was born in Philadelphia.
From 1946 to 1956 he played with the bands of Benny Carter, Earl Bostic, Charles Mingus, Billy Eckstine, Dizzy Gillespie, and Count Basie. He later recorded with Sonny Clark, Lou Donaldson, Dexter Gordon, Jackie McLean, Horace Parlan, Max Roach,and his brother, tenor saxophone player Stanley Turrentine. He recorded only one session as a leader. He retired from music in the 1960s.
Among the many albums on which he appears are Landslide (Dexter Gordon, 1961) and A Fickle Sonance (Jackie McLean, 1961).
