Tomás Orlando Pérez (born December 29, 1973) is a Major League Baseball infielder who plays for the Philadelphia Phillies (2000-present). Pérez was born in Barquisimeto, Lara State, Venezuela. He throws right handed and switch hits
Before landing in Philadelphia in 2000, Pérez have had played for the Toronto Blue Jays from 1995 to 1998. He is not a star, but he is a very useful ballplayer. Pérez is versatile, he has some pop in his bat, and he always hustles.
Pérez did his best in 2003. Shifted between third, second, first, shortstop, right field, and also as an emergency pitcher, Pérez was an asset in the bench. He has a strong arm, outstanding range and makes many excellent plays, but the more routine the hit, the more likely he will boot it. In 2004, he has steadly improved playing hitters.
While he would like to play daily, Pérez does not sulk when he sits. He waits for his chance, sticks in a big hit, fields capably and runs well.
Pérez is a .246 hitter with 22 home runs and 142 RBI in 588 games.
