Theatre of Tragedy
|
Theatre of Tragedy is a band from Stavanger, Norway, which was formed in 1993. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1995, and marketed as "dark wave metal from Norway". TOT are considered as the pioneers of the Scandinavian Goth metal scene.
Since the beginning, their musical style has evolved, and their later albums can be said to be more "mainstream" than the earlier ones. Their earlier style, which can be described as "beauty and the beast", combines the singing of male death vocals and female crystal vocals with heavy metal riffing and keyboard melodies.
In 2003, their original female lead singer, Liv Kristine Espanaes departed due to creative differences and to pursue her solo career. Later, her successor, Nell, joined to begin work on a new studio album to be released in Fall 2004.
