The Simple Life

The Simple Life is the name of a Fox reality television series originally broadcast in 2003.
The series juxtaposes two young, weathly urban socialites with the people and the values of a rural American farming community. Paris Hilton, heir to the Hilton Hotel fortune, and her friend Nicole Richie, adopted daughter of singer Lionel Richie, move in with a family in Altus, Arkansas for a month.
The show's entertainment value stems from the perception that the two women are out of touch with reality.
The show might be compared to the late 1960s television situation comedy "Green Acres".
A second season, titled The Simple Life 2: Road Trip, began broadcasting in the summer of 2004. In this series, the debutants traveled across the United States pulling an airstream trailer with a pink pickup truck. They participated in such activities as catching crawfish, working on a farm, and sausage making. Both seasons are available on DVD.
In the third season, The Simple Life: Interns, Hilton and Richie take various internships with companies along the East Coast of the United States. The program was taped in October and November of 2004 and aired its first episode on January 26, 2005.
A fourth season of the series is planned.
