The Rottentrolls

The Rottentrolls was a 1990s British children's television programme produced by The Children's Company for ITV. It was written by Tim Firth, based on characters created by Gordon Firth. The series describes the adventures of a group of trolls who live in a valley named Troller's Ghyll, "where the rocks are all slightly mad". (filmed at Brimham Rocks near Ripon in Yorkshire). Characters include Aysgarth, the oldest and wisest of the rottentrolls; Penygent, the cleverest of the rottentrolls; and Yockenthwaite, the stupidest of the rottentrolls. The names of the rottentrolls are all taken from locations in Yorkshire. They are aided by King Roger and later Princess Kate, two children who have chanced upon their home. The series also features Commander Harris, an ex-military sheep who is master of the ancient art of combat without contact, otherwise known as "JimJamYAHA!". The narration is provided by Martin Clunes.
The Rottentrolls ran for four series with 36 episodes in total. The writers went on to produce two spin-offs: a half-hour long special for the BBC named Combat Sheep (featuring Commander Harris), and a series for pre-school children called Ripley and Scuff.
