The Pilot (aka The One Where Monica Gets a Roommate, The One Where it All Began) is an episode of the television situation comedy Friends.
First aired: September 9, 1994
This is the first episode of Friends. The first scene takes place in Central Perk. Rachel bursts in wearing a wedding dress. She has just left Barry at the altar. Monica realizes it's her best friend from high school and introduces her to the gang. She wants to be independent and break free from the life she was expected to live. Ross suggests she stay with Monica for now and she gratefully accepts.
Monica goes on a date with 'Paul the wine guy' and it seems that he is the perfect and sensitive guy. However, Monica soon learns from her co-worker, Franny (played by Clea Lewis) who has also dated Alan, that he has run the same lines with her before.
Ross is depressed over his recent divorce from Carol so Joey and Chandler try and cheer him up.
