The One Where Nana Dies Twice
|
The One Where Nana Dies Twice is an episode of the television situation comedy Friends.
First aired: November 11, 1994
Chandler's co-worker tries to set up a date for him with a man. He is shocked to discover that even some of his friends thought he was gay when they first met him. When he asks them what it is about him that causes people to think he is gay, they struggle to come up with a response other than that he has a "quality" for it.
Ross and Monica visit their dying grandmother at the hospital. The family is informed that she has passed, but when Ross goes and gives her one last kiss on the cheek, it turns out she is not quite dead yet. Her movements cause Ross and Monica to freak out, and they run to get the nurse to look into it. Finally the oscilloscope goes flat for good, and Ross declares, "Now she's passed."
After the funeral, Ross falls into an open grave, and takes too much of his mother's medication to relieve his pain. He gets high, and tells Chandler (in front of another woman) to be gay if that is what he wants. He tells Rachel he loves her the most, and passes out over her.
Mrs. Geller claims that her mother (Nana) had been extremely critical of what she does. She, in turn, has been subconsciously doing the same to Monica. Monica tries to get her to realize this, and eventually she does.
