The Mighty Boosh

The Mighty Boosh is a British cult comedy set in Bob Fossil's Funworld (later the Zooniverse), "a very strange zoo indeed". The Mighty Boosh stars Howard TJ Moon (Julian Barratt) and Vince Noir, Rock and Roll star (Noel Fielding) who play slightly hapless zookeepers working under the ever-watchful eye of bad-tempered zoo boss Bob Fossil (Rich Fulcher).

Stage show

The Boosh was first a stage show (with only Julian and Noel), that won the Perrier Award for Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Festival 1998. During their residency at the Hen and Chickens Theatre the following year they built up a cult following. In 1999 they returned to the Edinburgh Festival with their new show Arctic Boosh which sold out every night and won a nomination for the Perrier Award. In 2000 while performing their third stage show Autoboosh at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival they won the festival's Barry Humphries Award.

Radio series

The Boosh were 'signed' by the BBC soon after, and in 2001, The Mighty Boosh, a radio series produced by Danny Wallace was broadcast on BBC Radio 4, and later BBC 7. This six-part series won the Douglas Adams Award for innovative comedy writing. This series is now available from the BBC on Audio CD. Many fans prefer the radio Boosh, as the much of the surreal nature is lost on the cheap sets of television.

The Mighty Boosh returned to radio again on 22 October 2004, when they did a comedy special for The Breezeblock, a show on BBC Radio 1.

TV series

Most recently, an eight-part television series also called The Mighty Boosh was filmed, directed by Steve Bendelack and produced by Baby Cow Productions. For this series, the original cast were joined by Noel Fielding's brother Michael Fielding playing Naboo, the zoo shaman, and Matt Berry as Dixon Bainbridge, owner of the zoo. This series was first broadcast on BBC Three in the summer (?) of 2004 and, from 9 November, also on BBC 2, although in a different order, and with the mild swearing censored or edited out.

A second series has been commissioned.
