Texas stereotypes

Texas stereotypes are traits people think or believe about inhabitants of Texas. Some examples are:
- Big and fat
- Wears boots, ten-gallon hats, & bola ties
- Show no feelings
- Don't care about the environment
- Own guns, especially six-shooters, and fire them at inappropriate times
- Rich, but make foolish purchases
- Get into eating contests in Amarillo
- Heavy drinkers
- Quick to anger and violence
- Have an oil well in their back yard
These sterotypical traits have been exemplified by:
- The character of the Rich Texan in The Simpsons
- King of the Hill, where a visiting Bostonian demands Hank Hill act like the sterotypical Texan he expects
- Oil tycoon J.R. Ewing on the soap opera Dallas
- Big Enos Burdette in Smokey and the Bandit
Texas stereotypes about the state itself:
