Templeton is located at 35°33'14" North, 120°42'34" West (35.553847, -120.709469)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 12.3 km² (4.7 mi²). 12.3 km² (4.7 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 4,687 people, 1,548 households, and 1,247 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 381.8/km² (989.2/mi²). There are 1,588 housing units at an average density of 129.4/km² (335.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 90.36% White, 1.17% African American, 0.70% Native American, 0.92% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 3.63% from other races, and 3.14% from two or more races. 11.82% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,548 households out of which 49.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.4% are married couples living together, 11.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.4% are non-families. 15.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.98 and the average family size is 3.33.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 33.7% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.4 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $53,438, and the median income for a family is $58,750. Males have a median income of $41,268 versus $32,034 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $19,671. 9.1% of the population and 6.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 11.5% of those under the age of 18 and 4.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Templeton also has the largest farmer's market in its county.
Many wineries operate the Templeton part of North San Luis Obispo County wine country.
There is a Hospital, Twin Cities, that provides services to most of North San Luis Obispo County. It is the source of most of the economy besides the community's school.
