Tanita Tikaram

Tanita Tikaram (born August 12, 1969) is a pop/folk singer/songwriter. Her style is based on acoustic guitar and on short songs. She became successful in her teens but has since faded into obscurity.
Of Indian-Fijian and Malaysian ancestry (her father was an officer in the British army), Tikaram was born in Münster, Germany and later moved with her family to Basingstoke, England. Her 1988 debut album Ancient Heart, highlighted by the enigmatic "Twist in my Sobriety", which remains her best-known hit, was very successful and led to a world tour. The song was accompanied by an award-winning black and white video, set in rural South America, and directed by Gerard de Thame. A later album, The Sweet Keeper, saw Tikaram begin to appeal to a specialising audience.
