Tammy Nagalingam is a medical doctor and was an independent candidate in the London mayoral election, 2004. She was the final candidate to join the race, after she paid the £20,000 required to stand out of her own savings.
Dr Nagalingam qualified in medicine in her native Sri Lanka, before emigrating to Britain where she worked in an NHS hospital in London. She owns and manages a chain of private slimming clinics.
Her policies include restricting the London Congestion Charge to rush hour periods and combatting litter in the capital.
