Tamms is a village located in Alexander County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 724.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.1 km² (2.3 mi²). 6.1 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 724 people, 279 households, and 191 families residing in the village. The population density is 119.5/km² (309.4/mi²). There are 316 housing units at an average density of 52.1/km² (135.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 74.72% White, 23.62% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 1.24% from two or more races. 1.66% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 279 households out of which 33.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% are married couples living together, 19.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.2% are non-families. 30.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 3.10.
