In all fairness to Raphson, this should be the Newton-Raphson method. Pizza Puzzle
pitfalls of the Newton-Raphson method
pitfalls of the Newton-Raphson method:
An infection point(f(x)=0) at the vicinity of a root causes divergence. A local maximum or minumum causes oscillations. It may jump from one location to another. A zero slope causes division by zero.
- Right, the method is not perfect. But as long as you start close enough to the root you will always be fine (of course, if the slope at the root is zero, the convergence will be slower). Oleg Alexandrov 20:04, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)
