What's this "St." stuff next to the Channel Islands? -- Zoe
Well I could not remeber the names so i put st. and a space so it could be filled in which it has. -fonzy
Is the Isle of Man really a sunational entity of the United Kingdom? -- Zoe#
o and the isle of man and channel islands are nto part of the uk, they are crown dependencies.
- So should we dump all those? It'd make more sense I think. Bagpuss 20:25 Feb 11, 2003 (UTC)
- Some others include them as well, e.g. ISO 3166-2 (http://www.iso.org/iso/en/prods-services/iso3166ma/index.html), but arrange them differently. Possibly we might want to name the group "United Kingdom and dependencies". Docu 23:43 Feb 11, 2003 (UTC)
- But wouldn't that mean we should list dependencies of other countries as well? And if we do that the list is going to get massive. Bagpuss
- I suppose, we should remove St. Annes/Alderney unless we integrate them differently.Docu 19:51 Feb 13, 2003 (UTC)~
- I was waiting for someone else to sort this out. Alderney really doesn't seem worth keeping to me, even if we do list some of the dependencies. Votes? Bagpuss
If we are going to list every subnational entity of every nation on earth this list is going to get huge! Shouldn't we think about ordering this informatioin in some other form? D.D. 08:54 Jan 27, 2003 (UTC)
- I agree that this has the potential to get huge. So I propose a compromise - list only those "subnational entities" that are states in themselves, as they really have capitals and not just administrative centres. That would mean include American States as opposed to counties, "countries" of the UK, States of Germany, etc. Unitary states (like france, italy, etc.) shouldn't get their parts listed here, only on their own page. Zocky 14:07 Jan 28, 2003 (UTC)
- Yes, certainly the list has the potential to be very big. I don't think this should have been any surprise since such a list was started. If the size of the page becomes unwieldy, some solutions would include 1)Break the list down into sections alphabetically or 2) Seperate pages for each nation, with this list containing links to each of those pages. I lean towards the second option.
- I'm not sure why Italy mentioned as a country that shouldn't be mentioned here. The regions of Italy often have rich histories as independant nations, and there are still some Italians to whom their regional capital is more important and relevant than Rome. -- Infrogmation
- To make it easier to read (or download), I put the name of the country in a separate column. Possibly this way, the actual length of the table is less an issue Docu 14:41 Feb 9, 2003 (UTC)
I've removed the "="s in the part of China. Chongqing Municipality is NOT the same as Chongqing City, the same applies to the other municipalities of China. I've also removed the SARs from the list, since they don't really have a capital to be listed here. (Just like Washington D.C. is not listed under United States in the table) --Lorenzarius 16:44 Feb 9, 2003 (UTC)
- A few subnational entities without a capital to list have been added to the table (such as the SAR, the Distrito Federal, Hamburg). This makes the column "subnational entity" more comprehensive. Personally I find them useful, but I started adding the "="'s to avoid misunderstandings. Thanks for correcting mine in regards to the Chinese municipalities. If you don't mind, I re-add the SARs Docu 17:09 Feb 9, 2003 (UTC)
- Instead of using "=", we could just leave the field "capital" blank Docu
- I replaced the "=" with "n/a" for e.g. the Distrito Federal and sorted them last Docu 12:41 Feb 12, 2003 (UTC)
- Yes, "n/a" is much clearer than "=", I'll add back the Chinese SAR for completness of the "subnational entities" column. --Lorenzarius 08:03 Feb 13, 2003 (UTC)

Isn't Victoria the capital of Hong Kong? --Jiang 03:56, 9 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- As far as I know, Victoria is indeed the capital of Hong Kong. Vancouverguy 04:01, 9 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- In Hong Kong, we do have a Victoria Harbour, a Victoria Peak, a Victoria Park, a Victoria Prison and many streets/roads named Victoria. Hong Kong is a small city, and we don't have a capital. If you're talking about the government building, that's in Central, but no one called that building our capital. --Lorenzarius 14:12, 10 Aug 2003 (UTC)
...says the World Book Encyclopedia and http://www.travelnotes.org/Asia/hongkong_highlights.htm --Jiang 15:57, 10 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- Lots of foreign travelling sites say that, but that is wrong. Hong Kong doesn't have a capital (and I wonder where that capital Victoria is). --Lorenzarius 16:07, 10 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- Hm..I guess Hong Kong doesn't have a capital, although I have seen Victoria marked on maps of Hong Kong as the capital. Vancouverguy 03:48, 11 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Russia
I just tried to complete Russia, and some either don't have capitals or don't have it noted in the Wikipedia articles... And some of the info on Russian subnational entities and capitals is inconsistent across articles. Tuf-Kat 07:20, Mar 3, 2004 (UTC)
Iranian provinces
There is a problem with some of the capitals for Iran. It is very obvious to see (they are all near the end) but I do not know how to fix this.
- I fixed it. -- User:Docu
