Does it matter that we list the tools here, if we don't explain what they are? -- Zoe
If you know enough to know what Jakarta is you will know what the tools do.... But they ought to be linked and detailed. user:sjc
Zigger, what is the difference between Jakarta projects and Jakarta-related projects ? Jay 08:52, 26 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- You may be confusing projects with products, which would be understandable. The summary on my edit [1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Jakarta_Project&action=history) was intended to show that the information source was http://jakarta.apache.org/, and that is also the source for the terminology. It is the Jakarta homepage that distinguishes between the two lists.
- The Apache Software Foundation has a number of projects.
- One of those is the Apache Jakarta Project, which covers a number of products, e.g. Cactus.
- Other Apache projects are single products, e.g. Apache Ant, and some of these are classed by the Jakarta Project as Jakarta-related products.
- My guess is that some Apache projects/products are Jakarta-related because they are written in Java (like Ant or Maven), and others because they are a relevant platform (like the HTTP server). --Zigger 16:09, 2004 May 7 (UTC)
