Talk:Christina Aguilera

Template:Oldpeerreview Is "sex-crazed, punk rock slut" NPOV? Or even accurate? User:209.53.140.134

It was a conscious change of image to "dirty girl", so it's accurate, although a bit dicy in the way it is actually put. I don't recall that she was wearing "only thongs and a bra" in the shower scene though, since "thongs" are sandals. Probably just "a thong", that is, scanty panties. Your cultural reporter, Ortolan88

Her 2nd official English speaking album, Stripped, was ranked one of the best albums to have been released by many charts. Fans beg to differ.

Removed this. Until today, it said "worst". Now it says "best". Apparently, Wikipedians beg to differ. :) Well, I don't know, so I'm removing the whole sentence until someone can substantiate it either way, with a reference. -- Oliver P. 19:49 5 Jun 2003 (UTC)

As a teenager, Aguilera sang the National Anthem before Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates games. In 1988, she appeared on Star Search but she didn't win. Her breakthrough came in 1992 when she joined The New Mickey Mouse Club Co-stars included Britney Spears, as well as Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez, who went on to join NSYNC, and Keri Russell, who would on to become the star of Felicity.

Born in 1980, sang national anthem in her teens (ie. 1993) onwards, then appeared in star search in 1998, and had her breakthrough in 1992??

Possibly Gay

silly semantic stuff here, but the previous "revealed that Aguilera was possibly gay" works a lot better, and I'm not sure why it was changed to "lesbian." as an adjective, gay is almost universally used in this context. lesbian is almost never used except as a noun. the word lesbian tends to be used a noun meaning a female of gay sexual orientation. no one says, "Do you think she is lesbian?" it's, "Do you think she is gay?" if the answer to that question is yes, it would be, "Yes, she is gay. she is a lesbian." GreenKid

I think "revealed that Aguilera is asked a lot of fool questions in interviews" or "revealed that Aguilera is a savvy marketeer" would be much more accurate.
In the interview, she said that she enjoys kissing women, and that looking at women arouses her more sexually than looking at men. "I love to see a girl with a good booty", she said.
Uh-huh. It's the kind of thing Abi Titmuss is coaxed into "purring" in every interview she does. According to this criterion, every woman ever interviewed by Loaded or FHM is screamingly "possibly gay".

It seems that people added GLBT Artists and GLBT people categories to the article, although Christina's engagement to Jordan Bratman confirms the opposite. I'm removing these references. --LBMixPro(Speak on it!) 06:17, May 26, 2005 (UTC)

Weight Issues

In early 2003, Aguilera aroused much comment when she gained a noticeable amount of weight. She was quoted as saying, "I couldn't care less about stupid diets. Eating is sensual and fun. I'm not going to let it be spoiled by calorie-counting." Whether she will be able to reconcile this attitude to her sexually-charged image remains to be seen.

Do you think this paragraph should be in this article? I don't see how someone's weight is signifigant enough to be mentioned in Wikipedia. --Lbmixpro 00:14, Mar 28, 2005 (UTC)

It's all a question of whether people care, or cared. Her weight is not necessarily worth mentioning, as long as nobody cares about it. But Christina is a sex symbol, so people definitely do care about every last pound gained or lost. I distinctly remember the talk about her weight at that time. So it's worth mentioning. Retrieved links?

Just wondering what it means when the links have the word Retrieved and a date next to them. Anyone care to explain?

It's the date the cited information was seen on the website being used as a reference. Tuf-Kat 21:46, Apr 13, 2005 (UTC)

Section POV template for Stripped

I added a SectNPOV template to the Stripped section of the article. The majority of the section seems to be weighted on the effects of the Dirrty video and says very little about the album's musical style, or other singles. I suggest either add detailed information about the the Fighter (a response to Kurtz), Beautiful (Video's appeal to urban sub-culture and it's message of not letting others' words hurt you), and Can't Hold Us Down (MTV's censorship and near-ban on the video for the use of a water hose). Or cut back on the "Dirrty details". --LBMixPro(Holla back!) 11:02, Apr 16, 2005 (UTC)

You seem to know a lot about it, can't you add that stuff? Everyking 12:30, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)
It would take some time, that's why I asked anybody who has knowledge about Christina to write it, to save me some time. --LBMixPro(Holla back!) 08:02, Apr 18, 2005 (UTC)

Images

I figured since we have a perfectly good image of her DVD cover, we should include it somewhere, so I added it to the bottom, beside where it mentions the DVDs. I think it fits pretty well there. Everyking 05:46, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

It's nice over there, but the reason why I put it on the top is to replace the other image, which may have been copyvio. I'd like to give the image that's currently on top about a week to get its copyright tag (someone already asked him to tag his images, since he uploaded quite a few others already). If nothing happens, then I'll probably assume copyvio on this one as well. --LBMixPro(Holla back!) 08:02, Apr 18, 2005 (UTC)

Questions/ Vocal Range

I find it odd that Christina should be listed/credited as a songwriter. She does not write songs, she simply adds to them. Alright, maybe this is hair-splitting but I think the "songwriter" bit needs to be removed.

And it is impossible for Christina to have hit a G6. It is higghly disputed that is is even possible for a human to hit those kinds of notes. And it is hotly disputed that it is even humanly impossible to have anything more than a 4 octave range. A piano doesn't even go higher than C7!

This is not an insult to Miss Aguileras but, there are misconceptions and inaccuracies in all female "diva' singers' voices and vocal abilities that need to be addressed. MsEames

The very first sentence on the "songwriter" page states the following:
"A songwriter is someone who writes, in part or in full, the lyrics to songs, the musical composition to songs, or both."
I don't see a problem with it. --Aves 23:26, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

There should be a distinction between someone who writes a few lines or a few words for a song, rather than wholly contributing to the song. If someone writes the lyrics and the music to a song, and someone rewords or adds a few lines, that doesn't make a songwriter. If Emeril LaGasse cooks a new meal and I add the salt, that by no means means I am now a chef. I am a songwriter and the title of songwriter is thrown around much too freely. I will add this comment to the songwriter page, too. The wording of the page is too benign and generic. MsEames

Protection request

The blanking seems to have stopped now, but rest assured. Reverting page or section blanking on talk pages when there's no personal attacks involved is vandalism and can be reverted without breaking the 3RR. - Mgm|(talk) 12:06, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)
