Talisman Dungeon
|
Talisman Dungeon is an expansion to the second edition of the Talisman board game, both produced by Games Workshop. It adds an additional region to Talisman, the titular dungeon. Like Talisman, Talisman Dungeon is no longer published. In contrast to most other expansions for Talisman, Dungeon can be played without using the main game board (though the game itself is needed for some of its elements). This is the only expansion that was designed by Talisman's inventor, Bob Harris.
A similar expansion is available for the third edition of Talisman. It is called Dungeon of Doom.
In normal play, the Dungeon board is placed alongside the main Talisman game board. Periodically throughout play, players may encounter entrances to the dungeon (they are initially "hidden" as normal Adventure cards). Players may choose to enter the dungeon or pass it by.
The dungeon is laid out in a spiral pattern, leading to the Treasure Chamber in the center. Many items are not allowed in the dungeon, such as mules and any horses. Also, some spells and character abilities are nullified or altered within the dungeon. Players forge through the dungeon and its traps and creatures to reach the fabulous treasure at the center. After reaching the Treasure Chamber, players are transported back to the main board. Where they are transported to on the board depends on a roll on the player's next turn (a table on the board describes how to resolve the roll).
There is an option to play Dungeon without the main game board. In this variation, characters start at the entrance to the dungeon. They then race to the center, the first one arriving declared winner. Unlike with the normal game, character cannot encounter one another in this variation.
