Taiji, Wakayama

Taiji (太地町; -cho) is a town located in Higashimuro District, Wakayama, Japan.
As of 2003, the town has an estimated population of 3,667 and a density of 615.27 persons per km². The total area is 5.96 km².
As of 2004, the town is the scene of international controversy regarding the mass killing of dolphins for commercial purposes. The BBC has been criticised by the charity Sea Shepherd for failing to cover the story fully.
