TV5 is a global television network, broadcasting several channels of French language programming. It was started in January 1984. It was under the management of Serge Adda until November 2004; the new director, named on April, 6th, 2005 is Jean-Jacques Aillagon, former French Minister for Culture and Communication. TV5 claims to be the third largest global television network, after MTV and CNN.
Most of the content is taken from mainstream networks in the French-speaking world, notably France 2 and France 3 from France, RTBF from Belgium, TSR from Switzerland, SRC-CBC and TVA networks in Quebec, Canada. In addition to international news, TV5 broadcasts movies and music magazines. The number 5 in the name is the count of the founding networks.
