Surprise is located at 41°6'16" North, 97°18'32" West (41.104403, -97.308948)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 44 people, 18 households, and 12 families residing in the village. The population density is 42.5/km² (110.1/mi²). There are 22 housing units at an average density of 21.2/km² (55.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 100.00% White.

There are 18 households out of which 44.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.0% are married couples living together, 16.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% are non-families. 33.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.44 and the average family size is 3.17.

In the village the population is spread out with 27.3% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 31.8% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 9.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 100.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 77.8 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $26,667, and the median income for a family is $29,375. Males have a median income of $23,750 versus $11,667 for females. The per capita income for the village is $11,978. 19.6% of the population and 13.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 22.2% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Miscellaneous

The city of Surprise, Arizona was named after this village in 1937 by one of its former residents, Homer C. Ludden.
