The term Surfboard can refer to:
- Used for riding waves, a popular recreational water sport and activity, there are many variations of surfboards with the predominant types being short-boards and long-boards.
Long-boards as the name suggests are longer (7-12ft), and also thicker, wider and with a more rounded nose than a short-board. Short-boards are shorter (5-7ft)have a more pointed nose are thiner, not as wide and typically more manoeuvrable.
Both have fins which create stick and drive on the wave face. The most common fin arrangement is name the thruster invented by Simon Anderson of Australia, which consists of three fins, one at the tail of the board and two slightly further towards the nose of the board.
Competition: Surfboards are used by surfers in a global competition organised by the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP). Each year a new world champion surfer is decided through a series of world events.
The most surfing world titles for a man belongs to Kelly Slater(USA) who has won six world titles.
The most surfing world titles for a woman belongs to Layne Beachley(AUS) who also has won six world titles.
