Summertime is a 1955 film which tells the story of an American woman who falls in love in Italy. It stars Katharine Hepburn, Rossano Brazzi, Isa Miranda and Darren McGavin. The movie was adapted by H. E. Bates, David Lean and Donald Ogden Stewart (uncredited) from the play The Time of the Cuckoo by Arthur Laurents. It was directed by Lean. It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Katharine Hepburn) and Best Director. In Britain, the film was initially retitled "Summer Madness".
