Stripes (film)

Stripes (1981) is an American comedic movie starring Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and Warren Oates. The director was Ivan Reitman.
Stripes also featured several (later quite noted) actors' first significant movie roles, including John Larroquette, Sean Young, and Judge Reinhold. It also was one of John Candy's earliest appearances. Bill Paxton was in one scene of as well.
Parts of the movie that detailed boot camp were filmed at Fort Knox (called 'Fort Arnold' in the film), and the film's opening scenes were shot on location in Louisville, Kentucky. (Interesting note- during the bridge scene early in the film, Murray's character is driving across the river to Indiana, and not towards the airport as indicated).
The movie is "dated" in some ways, as it is set in Cold War Europe, but the humor is generally based on broader concepts that are still amusing.
A distinguishing feature of the movie is that it is, of sorts, two movies in one; the first part is set in boot camp, while the latter part shows the soldiers' first mission.
