Strömstad is a Municipality in Västra Götaland County, in western Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 481.8 km². Of the total population of 11102, 5536 are male, and 5566 are female. The population density of the community is 23 inhabitants per km².
Strömstad is located on the Norwegian border and is known to attract large numbers of shoppers from Norway. While Swedish alcohol taxes are very high, the Norwegian tax is even higher and demand has caused Systembolaget, the Swedish alcohol retailing monopoly, to open an extra store to cater to this need.
The city is known for its yachting harbour.
