Stow is a town located in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 5,902.

History
Stow was first settled in 1681 and was officially incorporated in 1683.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 46.9 km² (18.1 mi²). 45.6 km² (17.6 mi²) of it is land and 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.60% water. It is located in eastern/central Massachusetts.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 5,902 people, 2,082 households, and 1,678 families residing in the town. The population density is 129.3/km² (334.9/mi²). There are 2,128 housing units at an average density of 46.6/km² (120.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 95.48% White, 0.36% African American, 0.19% Native American, 2.03% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 1.61% from two or more races. 1.42% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,082 households out of which 41.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.7% are married couples living together, 6.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.4% are non-families. 14.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.82 and the average family size is 3.16.
In the town the population is spread out with 28.2% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 30.6% from 25 to 44, 28.8% from 45 to 64, and 8.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 99.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $96,290, and the median income for a family is $102,530. Males have a median income of $75,758 versus $40,911 for females. The per capita income for the town is $38,260. 2.7% of the population and 1.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.6% of those under the age of 18 and 1.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
Recreation
Stow is home to 4 golf courses: Stowaway Golf Course, Stow Acres Country Club, Wedgewood Pines Country Club, and Butternut Farms Golf Course. The Stow Acres North Course was the host of the 1995 United States Amateur Public Links Championship. Stow also has many apple orchards, including Shelburne Farms and Honey Pot Hill Orchard. Nancy's Airfield Cafe is a lovely cafe located off of Boxboro Rd in Stow. It has been named a "Hidden Gem" by many food critics and the Phantom Gourmet has rated their blueberry pancakes "The best in Metrowest". Troop 1, Stow Boy Scouts are very active within the community, routinely awarding the rank of Eagle Scout. Some projects have been building map boxes for the Sudbury Valley Trustees, creating a kicking wall and signs at the Pine Bluff Recreation Area and Memorial Field, and building two new docks for the Town Beach. Others include builing a boardwalk over swampy areas between two schools, and building a cabin for nature activities.
