Stonewall is a census-designated place located in Gillespie County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 469. It is the birthplace of former U.S.President Lyndon Johnson.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 39.3 km² (15.2 mi²). 39.3 km² (15.2 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 469 people, 176 households, and 133 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 11.9/km² (30.9/mi²). There are 203 housing units at an average density of 5.2/km² (13.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 81.24% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 17.91% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 35.18% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 176 households out of which 34.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.0% are married couples living together, 13.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.4% are non-families. 20.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.66 and the average family size is 3.07.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 28.1% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 22.6% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 19.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 103.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.6 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $36,210, and the median income for a family is $37,721. Males have a median income of $29,531 versus $30,083 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $22,035. 17.1% of the population and 19.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 30.2% of those under the age of 18 and 32.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
