Stillwater is a town located in Saratoga County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 7,522.
The Town of Stillwater contains a village called Stillwater. The town is at the eastern border of the county.

History
Stillwater was established as a town in 1791.
Geography
The east town line is the border of Rensselaer County and Washington County, marked by the Hudson River.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 112.8 km² (43.6 mi²). 107.1 km² (41.4 mi²) of it is land and 5.7 km² (2.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.07% water.
US Route 4 follows the Hudson River through the town.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 7,522 people, 2,786 households, and 2,109 families residing in the town. The population density is 70.2/km² (181.9/mi²). There are 3,054 housing units at an average density of 28.5/km² (73.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.21% White, 0.41% Black or African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.11% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. 0.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,786 households out of which 38.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.7% are married couples living together, 10.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.3% are non-families. 19.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.70 and the average family size is 3.10.
In the town the population is spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 99.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.8 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $47,579, and the median income for a family is $53,023. Males have a median income of $37,428 versus $27,257 for females. The per capita income for the town is $19,291. 6.7% of the population and 5.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.6% of those under the age of 18 and 11.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
