Star Lake is a hamlet (and census-designated place) located in St. Lawrence County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the hamlet had a total population of 860.
Star Lake is in the Town of Clifton on Route 3, but part of the community is in the Town of Fine. The community is located east of a lake, also called Star Lake.
Geography
Star Lake is located at 44°9'36" North, 75°1'58" West (44.160012, -75.032800)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 12.5 km² (4.8 mi²). 11.4 km² (4.4 mi²) of it is land and 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.11% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 860 people, 363 households, and 235 families residing in the village. The population density is 75.1/km² (194.5/mi²). There are 526 housing units at an average density of 45.9/km² (119.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 95.58% White, 0.35% African American, 1.63% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.23% from other races, and 1.74% from two or more races. 1.05% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 363 households out of which 26.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.3% are married couples living together, 10.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.0% are non-families. 30.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.36 and the average family size is 2.85.
In the community the population is spread out with 23.6% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 26.6% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.7 males.
The median income for a household in the region is $34,083, and the median income for a family is $42,292. Males have a median income of $40,789 versus $21,806 for females.
