St. Johnsville is a town located in Montgomery County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,565.
The Town of St. Johnsville is in the northwest part of the county. The town contains a village, also called St. Johnsville.

Geography
The Mohawk River forms the south town line. The north town line is the border of Fulton County, and the west town line is the border of Herkimer County.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 45.0 km² (17.4 mi²). 43.6 km² (16.8 mi²) of it is land and 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.11% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,565 people, 1,043 households, and 658 families residing in the town. The population density is 58.8/km² (152.4/mi²). There are 1,170 housing units at an average density of 26.8/km² (69.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.67% White, 0.08% Black or African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 0.55% from two or more races. 1.36% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,043 households out of which 27.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.7% are married couples living together, 12.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.9% are non-families. 31.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.91.
In the town the population is spread out with 23.4% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 24.1% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 22.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 91.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.8 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $30,719, and the median income for a family is $39,830. Males have a median income of $25,000 versus $21,010 for females. The per capita income for the town is $15,116. 12.4% of the population and 9.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 20.4% of those under the age of 18 and 6.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
