Springdale is a borough located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 3,828.

Geography
Springdale is located at 40°32'29" North, 79°46'56" West (40.541491, -79.782124)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.8 km² (1.1 mi²). 2.4 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 13.76% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,828 people, 1,685 households, and 1,034 families residing in the borough. The population density is 1,589.2/km² (4,104.2/mi²). There are 1,802 housing units at an average density of 748.1/km² (1,932.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 99.03% White, 0.29% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.18% from other races, and 0.29% from two or more races. 0.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,685 households out of which 25.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% are married couples living together, 11.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.6% are non-families. 34.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.26 and the average family size is 2.93.
In the borough the population is spread out with 21.9% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 29.5% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 20.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 89.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.7 males.
The median income for a household in the borough is $35,440, and the median income for a family is $43,476. Males have a median income of $36,711 versus $25,920 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $19,798. 7.8% of the population and 3.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.2% of those under the age of 18 and 8.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
History
Springdale is most famous for being the birthplace of environmental activist Rachel Carson. Her homestead, whose land at one point included where the high school now sits, is a popular attraction. It gained national attention in 2000 when Democratic Presidential candidate Al Gore made a campaign stop at the homestead to put forth a bold environmental policy.
