Spike and Suzy (U.K.) or Bob & Bobette (U.K. and in French) or Willy and Wanda (U.S.) is an originally Flemish series of comic books called Suske en Wiske originally conceived by Willy Vandersteen (1913-1990) in the 1940s. New books are still created and it was and is popular among children in the Netherlands and Belgium. Many Flemish and Dutch adults consider the older books to be a classic.

One episode is first shown as a comic strip in the newspaper De Standaard and then printed in comic book format.

Krimson

The principal bad-guy, Krimson, was introduced in Het rijmende paard (96, 1969). After a while he was thrown in prison, and had to start over as a petty criminal in De Regenboogprinses (184, 1981), but he grew stronger again, and in a later episode, De Krimson Crisis (215, 1988) he even managed to overthrow the Belgian government. In De Kwaaie Kwieten (209, 1987) he even constructed an extremely top-secret military base capable of fighting extraterrestrials.

History

Character evolution

Characters are added, change, and the level of moral increases. Lambik and Jerom change a lot. In the beginning, Lambik was just a funny fool, but by now he is a cynic and sceptic man, who does not believe in, for instance, supernatural magic. Jerom was in the begin just an unintelligent strong man, but by now he is a wise man with little words. In most stories Sawdust is just a puppet, but one very special to Suzy, and they are inseparable. In some stories Sawdust comes alive, and plays an important role.
