Spencer is a suburban city located in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma and is part of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,746.
Established in 1903 the City of Spencer is a historic, beautiful and diverse community located just east of the North Canadian River. Spencer is approximately ten miles from Downtown Oklahoma City and shares borders with the City of Jones and the City of Midwest City. Spencer gives businesses, residents, and tourist the unique experience of country-style living while offering easy access to main thoroughfares and the bustling excitement of downtown Oklahoma City.
Contributing to the cultural fabric of Spencer are the Spencer Chamber of Commerce, Garden Club, Historical Society, and the Spencer Optimist Club.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.8 km² (5.3 mi²). 13.8 km² (5.3 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,746 people, 1,420 households, and 1,002 families residing in the city. The population density is 270.9/km² (701.0/mi²). There are 1,567 housing units at an average density of 113.3/km² (293.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 39.94% White, 51.82% African American, 2.83% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.51% from other races, and 4.51% from two or more races. 2.32% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,420 households out of which 29.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.0% are married couples living together, 17.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.4% are non-families. 26.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.59 and the average family size is 3.09.
In the city the population is spread out with 28.8% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 94.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.4 males.
